ABERDEEN, Wash. — A 36-year-old Aberdeen man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the death of his 4-year-old son, according to an update released by the Aberdeen Police Department.
The man was taken into custody at approximately 6:55 a.m. on June 4 and booked on felony charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Manslaughter in the First Degree. He also faces misdemeanor charges of Unlawful Disposal of Human Remains and Making a False or Misleading Statement to a Public Servant. He is currently being held at the Aberdeen City Jail pending transfer to the Grays Harbor County Jail.
The arrest stems from an investigation that began on May 12, when Aberdeen Police officers responded to a reported missing child complaint involving the suspect's 6-year-old daughter. During that investigation, officers determined the girl was with her mother and that the matter was a custody dispute rather than a criminal incident.

While following up on the case, detectives began asking questions about the whereabouts of the suspect's 4-year-old son. According to police, the father initially told investigators that the child was staying with a relative outside of Washington state. Detectives later contacted that relative and learned the child was not, and had never been, in their care.
As detectives continued their investigation and conducted multiple interviews with the father, they ultimately discovered the child's body buried on the suspect's property. At the time the remains were located, the circumstances surrounding the child's death remained under investigation.
Due to the complexity of the case, the Aberdeen Police Department requested assistance from the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team. On May 15, the team assisted detectives with the recovery of the child's remains from the property.
The case remains an active and ongoing investigation. Authorities say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
