Mason County, WA — A brief early-morning pursuit Monday led to the arrest of a Belfair man and the seizure of large quantities of illegal drugs and a firearm, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

On February 2, 2026, at approximately 1:32 a.m., a Mason County deputy attempted to stop an unlicensed motorcycle near U.S. Highway 101 and West Wallace Kneeland Boulevard. The rider failed to yield, prompting a pursuit eastbound along Wallace Kneeland Boulevard and onto East Johns Prairie Road.

Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was terminated. A short time later, the deputy located the motorcyclist after he failed to negotiate a curve, struck a street sign, and rode into a nearby field.

A search warrant was later served on the motorcycle and associated containers, leading to the discovery of evidence consistent with narcotics distribution. Investigators seized approximately one pound of methamphetamine, one-half pound of fentanyl, and $2,100 in cash.

The 39-year-old Belfair man was booked into the Mason County Jail on suspicion of attempting to elude a police vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm in the first degree, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office noted the incident highlights both the risks associated with fleeing from law enforcement and the importance of balancing enforcement actions with public and deputy safety.
