Structure Fire Contained at Abandoned Building in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, Wash. — Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a structure fire Tuesday evening at an abandoned commercial building in the 1800 block of Simpson Avenue.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from one side of a two-story vacant building. Due to the known abandoned status of the structure and active fire conditions, firefighters initially operated in a defensive mode. Officials confirmed that no nearby buildings were threatened.

After significant fire knockdown from the exterior, crews transitioned to an interior attack to complete extinguishment and conduct searches. Primary searches of both floors were completed, and no occupants were located inside the building.

The fire was brought under control within minutes of the first units arriving on scene. Firefighters remained at the location for several hours conducting overhaul operations and checking for hot spots.

Officials confirmed the building did not have active electrical power or natural gas service at the time of the fire. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The property owner was not present at the scene. Fire officials indicated the structure was in the process of demolition when the fire occurred.

Investigators believe the fire originated on an exterior wall before extending into the building. Due to the extent of damage, the cause of the fire has been classified as undetermined. Fire officials are working with law enforcement to review potential surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

The response included multiple fire departments operating under an automatic aid agreement, with approximately 12 firefighters on scene shortly after dispatch. The incident was handled as a first-alarm response and concluded later that evening.
