SR 109 near Taholah remains closed through Monday, March 23 following large debris slide

TAHOLAH – Both directions of State Route 109 south of Taholah near Canyon Way will remain closed at least until Monday, March 23. A large debris slide closed the highway during the early morning hours of Friday, March 20.

The slide brought down large trees, debris and powerlines across the highway in Grays Harbor County. There are no detours available.

Washington State Department of Transportation engineering geologists visited the site on Friday and found a large area of unstable soil and debris approximately 200 feet above the highway. The material cannot be cleared until the soil dries out.

Over the weekend, WSDOT maintenance crews will monitor the slide area. On Monday, March 23, WSDOT engineers will reassess the hillside to determine next steps.

WSDOT will provide an update when more information is available.
